The EU will invest EUR 721 million in ESF+ funding in Latvia to support social inclusion, employment, education and training.

The funding will improve access to affordable and quality social services, healthcare and community-based long-term care. ESF+ activities will enable people to acquire the skills needed to master the digital and green transitions, and will improve access to education – from early childhood education to vocational education and training. The funds will also support activation measures for jobseekers and people at risk of unemployment.

Latvia will use its ESF+ allocations to advance the social integration of persons at risk of poverty. The ESF+ in Latvia will also provide food and basic necessities to Latvia’s most vulnerable, including people fleeing Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Investments by the ESF+ will contribute to achieve Latvia's 2030 social targets under the European Pillar of Social Rights  to raise the employment rate to 80%, adult participation in education and training to 60% and by reduce the number of people at risk of poverty and social exclusion by nearly 95 000.

The ESF+ in Latvia is implemented through two national programmes – a multi-fund EU Cohesion policy funds programme, which also includes funding from the European Regional Development Fund, Cohesion Fund and Just Transition Fund, and a separate ESF+ Programme for addressing material deprivation.
