Three Spanish regions will receive an additional €96.3 million under REACT-EU under the European Social Fund (ESF) to help workers and jobseekers and improve social services, education and care.

In the Madrid region, €77.7 million will help jobseekers, with a focus on young people, to find jobs, including through additional vocational education and training (VET) opportunities.

14.9 million euros will be allocated to the Asturias region for the hiring of VET trainers, professionals for primary schools specialized in supporting therapeutic pedagogy for hearing and language problems, where EU funds will also be used to recruit more nursing and care specialists.

The region of Aragon will receive 3.7 million euros to help less qualified people to access training opportunities and obtain professional certifications in sectors with high labor demand, as well as to improve the access to social services for vulnerable people, including people with disabilities.

The 2021 tranche of REACT-EU had allocated €40 billion to help member states recover from the pandemic, invest in the digital and green transition and now welcome and integrate people fleeing war in Ukraine. In addition, the Commission has disbursed €3.5 billion in pre-financing payments to Member States under REACT-EU since March 2022. The most recent global package 'Flexible Assistance to Territories (FAST-CARE)', proposed by the Commission, further extends support to Member States by providing additional flexibility in Cohesion Policy funding while increasing pre-financing payments by an additional €3.5 billion to be paid in 2022 and 2023.

The date eligibility deadline for REACT-EU expenditure is 31 December 2023.
