Raising employers’ awareness gets more people into work

Participants
Kerstin Holland, 2020
Hiring people whose ability to work is reduced because of disabilities or health matters can be a challenge for employers. That’s why a project called 'Labour market services related to workability reform' is working with both employers and potential employees to raise awareness of the issues and maximise people’s employability.

The project, from the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund, supports jobseekers with measures including counselling for school leavers, rehabilitation, and financial aid to help people travel to work – including transport expenses for a care assistant, if required.

It also conducted a series of workshops with employer representatives, which showed that the greatest challenge for employers is awareness: knowing what to consider when you want to hire, or have already hired, a person with health-related needs.
