In Finland, an Online Homework Help Service isn't just helping young people with their homework – it's also helping higher education students to learn digital and communication skills, and giving them some valuable work experience along the way.
To deliver Online Homework Help, a group of volunteers – mostly students who are studying youth work or the teaching of Finnish as a second language – gather in a library computer room to offer homework support over the internet.
Most of the young people who are accessing the support service from home are immigrants, so it has an added benefit: as well as help with their schoolwork, they also receive the opportunity of peer support.
