On the 25th May 2020, the Italian National Institute on Anti-discrimination (UNAR), the National Health Institute and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs launched an initiative for the rights of transgender people in Italy.

With the financial support of the European Social Fund (ESF) National Programme on Social Inclusion, an online portal was created to raise awareness about gender identity, via news, audio-visual resources, and positive examples. The portal provides a gateway of information for transgender people and their representative organisations via a map of services such as health, social and legal counselling, and an overview of rights and legal protection against discrimination.

Infotrans.it is the first institutional portal in Europe that offers this service to transgender people. The effectiveness of the principle of equal treatment is among the main objectives of the European integration process, as it represents the necessary condition for the implementation of the principle of equality between people without distinction of gender, birth, origin, belonging. religious or political, age, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Over the past few years, European legislation has broadened and deepened the area of protection of discrimination by setting up an organic system of rules aimed at recognizing and protecting the right to equal treatment.
