Problem addressed
Digital intelligence is essential for modern society and the economy. It involves not only technological skills, but also critical thinking and responsible use of technology. Measuring and developing digital intelligence at both the societal and enterprise level is essential for successful digitalisation. As the digital society evolves, inequalities in digital literacy and infrastructure development are also emerging. In rural areas, lack of infrastructure and limited skills can be barriers to accessing online education and other digital services. Research on the social impact of digitalisation emphasises that the success of social innovation depends on the empowerment and involvement of citizens. This is why our research has taken a major step towards this goal by developing a measurement scale, as measuring and improving digital intelligence contributes to increasing economic prosperity and social development.
Innovative solution
The biggest achievement of the research team was the creation of the Digital Intelligence Profile (DIP) digital intelligence scale, following the steps of the scale validation process and registering the trademark in Hungarian and English.
The Digital Intelligence Profile (DIP) measures 8 dimensions (Digital Personality, Digital Harmony, Digital Risk, Digital Protection, Digital Emotional Intelligence, Digital Dialogue, Digital Literacy, Digital Empowerment), 3 levels (basic, advanced, expert), 3 domains (knowledge, skills, attitudes).
Key results and benefits
The research results with the valid measurement can help in several fields.
1.Measurement and relevance at societal level:
- Social gap: the lack of digital intelligence affects a wide section of society and can widen the digital divide. It is therefore important to measure and improve it so that everyone has access to digital technologies.
- Education and participation.
- Resilience: digital intelligence is a foundation for resilience, especially in crisis situations such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
Enterprise-level measurement and significance:
- Competitiveness: for companies, the digital intelligence of their employees is key to maintaining competitiveness and adapting to technological progress.
- Labour market: measuring and developing digital intelligence helps to place workers and meet labour market needs.
- Innovation: Advanced digital intelligence enables the effective deployment and use of innovative technologies in companies.
