Fun peer-to-peer activities improve wellbeing

Participants
Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, 2019
In Finland, young people are being taught how to create fun and interesting activities for their peers, which don’t only improve everyone's wellbeing, but promote social empowerment too.

The Höntsä project, from the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, has created an educational programme targeted at young people aged 16-25 – including those who want to share their hobbies with their peers, those who run cultural or sports clubs, and professionals who want to work with young people.

The word Höntsä is related to fun, and every activity at a Höntsä club has a fun-loving, lighthearted feel. Young people who are interested in culture or the arts can learn creative teaching methods with which they can share their hobbies, and those who want to run an exercise or sports class are shown how to do this in a way that improves participants’ wellbeing, rather than encouraging them to compete.
