’Real Economy’ - enabling people with disabilities to thrive in the job market

Commissioner Dalli in interview with Real Economy
(c) European Union

The latest episode of the Euronews Real Economy magazine focuses on inclusion of people with disabilities – a key principle of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Having a job is one of the best ways to ensure independence and social inclusion, yet only 50.8% of people with disabilities are in work compared to 75% of people who do not have a disability.  This amounts to over 40 million disabled Europeans who are currently not employed.

This time Real Economy travels to Spain, a country that has seen the number of persons with disabilities in the job market rise by more than 20 percent over the past six years.  The episode presents the ONCE Foundation’s 'Digital Talent' programme, which is co-funded by the European Social Fund. In 2021, Digital Talent’s efforts allowed 5000 young people with disabilities to learn new skills, helping them to become just as productive as persons without a disability.

The episode includes interviews with a Digital Talent participant, as well as a Polish expert on diversity and workplace integration of people with disabilities.

It also features an interview with Helena Dalli, European Commissioner for Equality, discussing the EU’s Disability Rights Strategy.

This Real Economy episode is accessible for persons with disabilities.  Its TV broadcast includes subtitles in all official European languages, with sign language and [English] audio versions available via Euronews on the web.
