IMPACT - Inspiring.Meaningful.Autistic.Career.Transition (Supports)

Project Summary - IMPACT Programme
The IMPACT Project is a comprehensive initiative designed to support neurodiverse professionals,
particularly those with autism, in transitioning from education to employment. The programme is built on the
pillars of evidence-based supports, person-driven approaches, and innovative practices, all aimed at
fostering Good Autism Practice through a holistic methodology. The programme also fosters to support
cultural change with consulting companies on best practices in support of aligning their people strategies to
widening the net in support of fostering an equitable working environment for neurodivergent employees.
Key Features
Person-Cantered Approach
The project places the individual at the heart of its design, ensuring that supports are tailored to each
participant's unique needs and goals.
It emphasises goal-driven strategies over process-driven methods, focusing on achieving meaningful career
outcomes for participants.
Evidence-Based Supports
The Project Utilises research and best practices to inform the structure and content of its delivery. The
project Incorporates theoretical and practical learning to prepare participants for real-world employment
scenarios via learning in practice.
Holistic Methodology
The project addresses various aspects of career development, including skill-building, confidence
enhancement, and career planning.
Modules cover a wide range of topics such as workplace expectations, career preparation, job sourcing,
health and welfare at work, and entrepreneurship, where it’s capstone focuses on organisational culture and
what that means within the context of socialisation in the work-place or what is also coined “The Hidden
Curriculum” with a strong focus on the individuals values and informed decision making.

Innovation and Good Autism Practice
The Project employs innovative practice teaching methods, including role-playing, simulated interviews, and
interactive discussions.
Focuses on developing personal and interpersonal skills that are valued by employers and colleagues.
Employer Engagement
The project endeavours to align individual values with employers to ensure a supportive and inclusive work
environment.
The project seeks to promote job retention and succession planning by recognising and addressing the
needs of both employees and employers.
Programme Structure
The project consists of 3 pillars
1. Six-Week Duration: The programme consists of six modules delivered over six weeks, each focusing
on different aspects of career development.
2. Group and One-on-One Sessions: While group sessions are central, the programme also offers oneon-
one sessions to address individual goals and aspirations over a long-term period through their transition journey into work.
3. Employer consultation that is also employer centric.

Outcomes Driven
Participants develop a personal job-seeking toolkit that works for them. Participants and employers gain a
deeper understanding of the importance of workplace culture and expectations.
The programme helps participants set achievable career objectives and explore various career options.
The programme fosters a supportive community where participants can share experiences and learn from
each other as well as invite employers under DEI to show case their values and what it means for them to be
an employer of choice to the Neurodivergent community.
Testimonials and Dublin City University,(DCU) Qualitative study of the effectiveness of the project.
Via a longitudinal study reviewing 4 years of work, participants have praised the programme for its practical
tips, supportive environment, and the opportunity to interact with peers as well as employers. Many have
found the skills and knowledge gained through IMPACT project to be invaluable in their career journeys. To
date the Project boasts an 87% success rate of employment placements regarding career focused goals,
consisting of just under 100 participants.
