Children across Greece are benefiting from an ESF-funded project that brings students with disabilities or special educational needs into mainstream classes, by giving them additional support from teaching staff and assistants.
The "educational support programme for the inclusion of students with disabilities or/and specialised educational needs" is an innovation from the country's ESPA Executive Unit – the Education Sector of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs – and will benefit almost 5,000 schools across Greece.
For those schools which are participating in the project, the additional funding allows for co-operation between the main classroom teacher and an additional parallel support teacher. This additional teacher exclusively works with students with disabilities or special educational needs so that they can meet the requirements of their curriculum.
