"The majority of our society regards Roma people as a problem. However, I believe that we are equal as people, equally important." As third year medical student Tamás points out, people with a shared Hungarian and Roma identity often face increased challenges in society.
That's why a college in Szeged, southern Hungary, has created a project to help its Roma students to feel more empowered and engaged.
The Christian Roma College of Szeged, Hungary, was established in 2012 to support young Roma people through higher education. Now, it is helping members to understand and promote Roma culture as part of wider Hungarian culture, through its Blessed Ceferino project.
