Founded in 1999 by elite athletes, the Premiers de Cordée association regularly offers free introductory sports activities in hospitals as part of its Sport à l’Hôpital program. Noting the benefits of sports on morale, the opportunities for sharing and exchange, and the way it helps them let off steam, a group of elite athletes who founded the association successfully introduced sports into the pediatric wards of some fifteen hospitals in the Île-de-France region. These activities are supervised by qualified sports instructors, thanks to the support of partner federations, leagues, committees, and clubs. Many sports are offered, from soccer to rugby, including boxing, volleyball, basketball, dance, judo, and tennis, etc. While nearly 20 years ago, the main focus was on promoting "sport for all" and bringing joy and a fighting spirit to young patients, today, the benefits of physical activity on the disease are even recognized and requested by doctors.
