‘COM_VIDA’, a local service for Municipality of Beja, is aiming to promote active ageing with the help of a multidisciplinary team, The Centro Social Nossa Senhora da Graça.

The project began in 2018 and will run until 2021 with a total budget of €319 460, with support from the European Social Fund (ESF).

It combines four different components that include:

  • Promoting healthy lifestyles
  • Using socialisation to prevent dementia and promote mental health
  • Monitoring quality of life and wellbeing
  • Managing an online platform with individual wellness activity programmes.

During the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the COM_VIDA team promoted the recording of a series of videos that proposed activities to stimulate cognitive and motor activity, as well as creativity, enabling particpants to stay active at home. In parallel, it participated in the creation of a call centre that contacted particpants every day to offer social and psychological support plus monitoring their physical and mental health.

The project team subsequently joined forces with the response team, whose aim was to ensure that people stayed at home. The role of the project team here was to contact beneficiaries and ensure that they maintained their motor and cognitive stimulation at home. The team also promoted measures whereby the project beneficiaries produced protective masks for distribution by the IPSS (Private Social Solidarity Institutions) in the municipality of Beja.
