The inaugural Étoiles de l'Europe awards ceremony, held in Caen on 21 November 2024, celebrated eight outstanding projects co-financed by European funds. The event, organised by the Normandy Region, showcased the impact of EU funds in driving innovation, inclusion, and sustainability.
From a pool of 85 applications, 21 exemplary projects were shortlisted, with winners selected across seven thematic categories by a jury of experts. A special Coup de cœur prize was awarded based on live public voting.
The winning projects
- Research and innovation: Stimagro
Using earthworm compost, Veragrow has developed plant biostimulants that enhance growth while reducing chemical fertiliser needs. This innovation supports sustainable agriculture and soil health. - Digital: La Maison des Aidants
This centre provides digital tools and immersive experiences for caregivers and people with disabilities, offering respite and improving well-being through virtual reality and connected technologies. - Energy transition and biodiversity: Rénovation of the Maison du Parc
This project achieved exceptional energy performance in restoring historic buildings, serving as a model for renewable energy use and eco-friendly building practices. - Heritage and tourism: Festival Photo Martagny
A unique open-air photography festival that blends culture, community engagement, and environmental awareness, accessible to people often excluded from cultural events. - Territories: Au Fil de la Laize
An artistic bus brings eco-conscious performances and workshops to remote communities, fostering cultural connection and environmental responsibility. - Training and orientation: Bateau-école Anita Conti
A state-of-the-art floating classroom trains maritime professionals and promotes careers in renewable energy and the maritime sector. - Agriculture and fisheries: Moutarderie – Vinaigrerie artisanale
Reviving traditional mustard-making in Normandy, this project uses locally sourced ingredients and strengthens regional food systems. - Coup de cœur: Zeoxy
An innovative cancer treatment uses zeolite nanoparticles to deliver oxygen to tumours, increasing the effectiveness of therapies while sparing healthy cells.
European support driving local impact
The success of these projects demonstrates the vital role of European funding in fostering innovation, sustainability, and access to training across Normandy. With more than €1 billion in EU funds allocated to the region for 2021–2027, initiatives like these continue to strengthen local communities and contribute to a sustainable future.
