Create Responsible

Freelancing brings work-flexibility but also job insecurity and considerable variations in income over time. To avoid this, freelancers need to rely on strong professional networks to find and retain employment. However, initiatives that help freelancers in specific sectors develop such networks are limited. Create Responsible is an e-cooperative in Slovenia that seeks to tackle issues of work-life balance and social exclusion, supporting freelance workers to achieve greater levels of job security and stability in their lives. It is the first e-cooperative in Slovenia that uses digital technology such as blockchain as a tool to connect and empower precarious workers from across a variety of different businesses and services. Between December 2017 and December 2018, Create Responsible successfully engaged over 200 designers and artists in Slovenia across 9 municipalities. It has provided them with access to new markets and opportunities and has created a network of skilled individuals who can communicate with each other, share ideas, build professional networks and promote socially conscious business activity. Following the success of the initiative and there being fewer opportunities to expand the project online, Create Responsible decided to open a ‘buy responsible’ store that can, in addition to the digital platform, provide a face-to-face approach that was not previously possible.
