ICT-BASED DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS AND KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT

This project - funding by the National Laboratory of Social Innovation (Tinlab - NKFIH-472-3/2021; RRF–2.3.1-21-2022-00013) - started in 2021 as a cooperation between the Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Needs Education, and the Faculty of Informatics from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE, Budapest, Hungary), with the objective of developing an adaptive online diagnostic system.
The project involves members from two faculties of ELTE, and staff from external educational institutions. The project is implemented by an interdisciplinary team; psychologists and special education professionals develop the structure and select the procedures of the test system according to current psychological paradigms, while IT specialists implement the online framework and the associated tests based on the function specifications. We also paid special attention to creating a related research database. The external experts helped us with numerous ideas and suggestions in order to make the testing system as child-centric and user-friendly as possible. The user terms and conditions were developed in collaboration with ELTE lawyers.
Our test battery focuses on the measurement of cognitive control functions within groups of children with special educational needs. For the children in question the main advantage is that the psychological diagnosis needed for their support and special education is achieved faster, and is more accurate.
Our long-term goal is to move beyond diagnosis, and build software-based, gamified intervention systems fitted to the diagnostic tools. Finally, we plan to extend this approach to screening children with exceptional ability.
