The 'Get out of your frame' campaign

‘Get out of your frame’ is a communications campaign dedicated to informing the public about the European Union’s contribution to improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities, raising awareness and promoting understanding on disability issues.

The campaign was developed by the Managing Authority of the Operational Programme of “Western Macedonia” 2014-2020, in cooperation with 11 other organisations from public and civil society.

The focus was on projects funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF) during the 2014-2020 period, as well as upcoming projects funded by ERDF and ESF+ for 2021-2027.

Campaign activities

Four distinct activities were organized during the campaign:

  1. School Evacuation Simulation: This event demonstrated a school evacuation in case of an earthquake, with emphasis on the evacuation of students with disabilities.
  2. Educational Experience: Participants learned what it is like for people with disabilities to navigate city streets, highlighting accessibility issues and developing suggestions for infrastructure improvements.
  3. Meeting on Europe and Disability: This meeting showcased EU-funded projects supporting people with disabilities in Western Macedonia and discussed key issues related to the rights of persons with disabilities in public life.
  4. Theatrical Performances: To celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 2 and 3 December, two performances of a play based on the book ‘The Story of Mix, Max, and Mex’, by Louis Sepoulveda, were held. The play was performed by the children receiving services and care at the Rehabilitation and Daycare Centre for Disabled People 'Kivotos', along with their carers, and the 'EnDynami' Ensemble.

Approximately 820 people attended the two performances, with an additional 400 attending the general rehearsal. The entire theatrical performance, with Greek and English subtitles, is available at the following link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qEm5vqAxYQ

Digital media and communication strategy

The Department of Communication and Digital Media at the University of Western Macedonia, specifically the Digital Media and Communication Strategy Laboratory, provided scientific support and implemented the digital media and communication strategy.

The campaign team created a Facebook page, an Instagram account, and a YouTube channel to reach a wider audience.

The digital media campaign was developed by the Department of Communication and Digital Media at the University of Western Macedonia and ran for 22 days, from 22 November to 13 December 2023. As part of the campaign, a significant number of posts were produced and uploaded to social media:

  • Facebook: 57 posts and 59 stories.
  • Instagram: 41 posts, including 5 reels and 73 stories.
  • YouTube: A playlist was created featuring live broadcasts of the "Europe and Disability" workshop and the "Mix Max Mex" theatrical play, along with 5 other campaign-related videos.

Even though the accounts were new, with zero followers when the campaign started, during the 22 days campaign, only in Facebook the posts reached 35,340 people (reach), generating 14,680 interactions, 7,928 reactions, 612 shares, 2,727 photo views, 219 comments and 185 link clicks.
