The European Social Fund (ESF) and the Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) worked hand-in-hand during the 2014-2020 programming period to invest in people and boost employment, skills and social inclusion. Beyond direct support to individuals, the ESF has also co-financed reforms of employment, education, training and social systems and services.

In 2023 the two funds are reaching the end of their lifespan and have been merged into the European Social Fund Plus for the current programming period (2021-2027).

The European Commission is now evaluating the 2014-2020 support provided by the ESF and the Youth Employment Initiative.

How to take part

Share your feedback on the ESF and YEI by taking part in the public consultation, which is open until 9 January 2024 and available online in all official languages of the EU.

Contributions are welcome from everyone, including:

  • anyone who has received support, or is in need of support;
  • organisations involved in the management of the European Social Fund and the Youth Employment Initiative programmes;
  • beneficiaries or project partners;
  • other organisations involved in employment, training, education and labour policy support and in social innovation.

Your opinion matters!

Your feedback will help the Commission to assess the achievements of the 2014-2020 period and to draw lessons on how to improve social funding support in the future.
