Problem addressed
In Lithuania, as in many European countries, population aging is a major challenge. Older adults often experience loneliness, social isolation, and limited opportunities to participate in community life, mainly due to low digital literacy.
Seniors World (SP) addresses these issues by building a senior community and promoting lifelong learning and active ageing. Many activities initiated during the pandemic continue online, with around 80% still conducted virtually. This increases accessibility, including for seniors in remote areas, but also creates challenges in making activities engaging and easy to understand.
Activities not only provide learning opportunities but also enhance wellbeing, giving participants energy and positivity. SP encourages seniors to volunteer in events and community initiatives, further reducing loneliness and adding meaning to their lives.
Despite offering unique services—including online informal education, senior clubs, camps, and volunteering—SP faces challenges in expanding participation and social enterprise growth. There is a need for a clear visual identity and effective promotional design to communicate the value of these programs, unify or differentiate SP’s offerings, and attract more participants.
Innovative solution
“Seniors World” creates a positive, inclusive, and visually engaging communication and service design tailored for older adults. The initiative addresses several interconnected challenges:
- Ageism and social isolation – the innovative design and activity formats improve the image of older adults, reduce age-based discrimination, and encourage participation in social and economic life.
- Lack of knowledge and skills – clear and attractive communication helps seniors learn new technologies, participate in online training, and use digital tools effectively.
- Low engagement in volunteering – accessible design and information increase the appeal of volunteering, strengthen community connections, reduce social isolation, and improve seniors’ mental and physical well-being.
- Intergenerational collaboration and self-esteem – the approach promotes collaboration between generations, enhances self-worth, and encourages meaningful participation by older adults.
Impact: The innovative design solutions enhance social inclusion, improve quality of life, foster senior engagement, strengthen community ties, and shift societal perceptions of older adults as active and contributing members of society.
Key results and benefits
The created video design was displayed on major billboards across Vilnius, attracting the interest of the city’s residents. Website traffic for Seniors World (SP) increased by 60%, along with participation in online events.
Potential for mainstreaming
An attractive design that clearly communicates the benefits of educational and social services for seniors has given the organization a competitive advantage. New design solutions for the existing social enterprise will bring tangible benefits – strengthening its position among competitors and increasing influence with both loyal and potential audiences. Video guides presenting Seniors World (SP) services will be used in social media advertising and will help attract new participants.
