From Idea to Action: Establishing and Operating Social Farms in Practice

Social farms are innovative community-based enterprises that integrate agricultural work with therapeutic, social and educational objectives. They offer meaningful activities for disadvantaged or vulnerable individuals (e.g. people with disabilities, former inmates, elderly, addicts, homeless) through gardening, animal care, food processing or crafts.
The project developed a practical guidebook based on domestic good practices and mentored ten emerging farms. Activities included farm visits, data collection, stakeholder engagement, publication of an ISBN-registered handbook, training events, and policy recommendations. A professional network was expanded to over 40 member organisations. The results support the creation of a national social farm incubation framework.
