Problem addressed
According to the OECD, it would take six generations in France to escape poverty.
Fewer than 10 per cent of children from working-class families go on to become managers, compared with 47 per cent of children from managerial families.
35 per cent of young people from working-class backgrounds go on to higher education, compared with 90 per cent of those from more affluent backgrounds.
Innovative solution
From an academic journey to a path to success
From career guidance to entry into the world of work, we support young people from working-class backgrounds, aged 15 to 25, on their journey to success.
Article 1's action is organised around three key areas: career guidance, academic success and personal development, and finally, preparation for entry into the world of work.
CAREER GUIDANCE: Fostering academic ambition
This area is aimed at Year 11 and Year 12 pupils in general, technological and vocational streams throughout France.
Objectives:
- To overcome self-doubt and barriers to continuing one’s studies
- To shed light on career guidance options and future prospects
- To support sixth-formers in choosing their course of study
SUCCESS: Ensuring students have every opportunity to succeed
This area is aimed at students in preparatory classes, grandes écoles, BTS/IUT programmes and universities.
Individual mentoring, the cornerstone of our work:
- Helping students build self-confidence;
- Raising their ambitions and helping them develop an academic plan;
- Introducing them to the world of business, its professions and its codes of conduct;
- Laying the foundations for their career plans and preparing them for entry into the labour market.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: Identifying, assessing, recognising and developing transferable skills.
This programme is aimed at young adults aged 16 to 25.
Its objectives are to enable them to:
- Recognise the richness of their life experiences;
- Develop and make the most of their key soft skills to enrich their life experiences and improve their employability;
- Encourage their commitment to help them take control of their future;
- Foster the mindset and skills needed to reinvent themselves, take the initiative and contribute to transforming the world, in their own way.
